What a great long weekend we had at team camp. YMCA Camp Pinewood was the perfect setting to get in a tremendous amount of quality running, and also enjoy some other non-running activities. On Friday runners completed a 60 minute run around camp to become familiar with the setting. Saturday morning the team ran 6-8 x 400 meters in small groups, and in the afternoon the boys ran 4.2 miles hard and the girls ran 2.1 miles hard. Sunday morning the team ran 6-8 x Obenauf Hills. Everyone looked great and worked really, really hard. I was so impressed with everyone's effort and seeing such a high level of focused runners working together. That afternoon the boys again ran 4.2 miles and the girls ran 2.1 miles, each trying to match their time from the previous day's afternoon run. On Monday morning the team finished camp with a progression run of 10, 8, or 6 miles on Brickyard Road. Brickyard is probably one of the hilliest runs the runners will encounter in their lives. It was a great way to end camp on such a demanding course. Campers ended team camp with a day trip to Michigan Adventures before returning to Haslett Monday evening.
Before we know it the team will be toeing the line for the first of many races this fall. Having put in such a high level of quality work at camp and over the first few weeks of practice, both the boys and girls teams can expect to see positive results as we work our way to becoming one of the top teams in the area.
