When I arrived at my classroom door this morning, I was pleasantly surprised... to say the least. The locker/door decoration read "Racing is like a present... you never know what you are going to get." They listened... and it stuck. In the world of education this can sometimes be a hard feat to accomplish for a teacher/coach. There are days when you feel your words go in one ear and out the other. Anyways... thanks so much for listening!

Racing is like a present... you never know what you are going to get. You should have a vague idea from the work you have done in practice. You have ran workouts at goal race pace. You have pushed yourself to be uncomfortable and to accept that feeling and to also embrace it. But when you toe the line on race day, the end result will always be a present. Sometimes one you wanted, sometimes one you did not want, and sometimes one you never thought you would get in a million years. That's the beauty of running and sports in general, and why we need sports in our lives.
