I changed the quote from "We ride even if the sun shines" to We even run in the sun! The original quote came from the following article in The New York Times.
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/12/health/nu...
The article is timely as we head into the winter months of training in the sleet, snow, rain, below zero wind chills... and the list goes on. These conditions definitely scare the average person to hibernate for the winter months. For the Haslett distance runners it is an opportunity to enjoy what mother nature has to offer us... to make us stronger and challenge our perception of what comfortable really is. Comfortable for a distance running is far different than the comfortable to the average no good high school gamer.
The article also touches on the concept of "Epic" runs. Running in adverse conditions greatly increases the chances of one having an epic run. What is an epic run? A run that you will remember for the rest of your life... but we must head out the door knowing one can not expect or search out an epic run. Epic runs happen when we least expect them. A runner is very lucky to have one epic run a year. Looking back on my 15 plus years of running... I have only had a handful of epic runs to talk about. This averages out to less than 1 epic run a year... but to know that an epic run is lying around any corner... it keeps running real and exciting... every step of the way.
We even run in the sun!
