What is Normal?

We asked everyone at practice the other day what they consider to be a normal (average) time for the 800, 1600, and 3200. I should have asked each event before I gave my answer of what I consider to be an average time.

To make this team better, something everyone needs to be aware of and be willing to change is what is "normal." Everyone on this team is ABOVE AVERAGE. You are an exceptional group of individuals and should settle for nothing less than the best. From years of running and coaching here is what I believe should be our programs current average for each event.
  • boys 800: 2:00 - 2:05
  • girls 800: 2:30 - 2:35
  • boys 1600: 4:45 - 4:55
  • girls 1600: 5:35 - 5:45
  • boys 3200: 9:50 - 10:10
  • girls 3200: 12:00 - 12:20
Your mind is probably the most powerful tool you will ever have. Please try to change what you consider to be an average time and align them with the above times. This is the only way we are going to reach our full potential. When you look at other teams that have success think about what they think is average. There is no reason we can't not be better than these average times. Haslett does the training to run these times... it's in your hands to convince your legs that they can run these times.

Think back to when you first started running on this team. What was an average/normal distance to run? Some of you thought it was CRAZY to go out and run 4 miles. Now some of you might think 4 miles is an easy day, 6 is normal, and 10 is challenging. You challenged what you thought was normal and found a new normal. Keep on challenging the norm!
