DeWitt Relay Summary

Great to get the season rolling at the DeWitt Relays. It was fun to see the competitive fire come out of a good number of Haslett Runners. It was also rewarding to see the positive results for many that put in their miles over the summer. The watch never lies and the results from Tuesday gave us a good feel of where the team is and where we need to head.

There is a tremendous amount of hard work that still lies ahead if we are going to reach our full potential. The strongest link to both the boys and girls right now is that we have a solid group of runners in the 5th to 10th spot on the team. The time spread for these runners is not much and if we can figure out a way to work as a group and keep on improving it will be hard for many teams to compete with us.

Here is a good example of the power of having a solid group of 5 through 7 runners. Say we are trying to beat a team (DeWitt/Ionia) and....
  • they go 1, 2, 5, 9, 12, 13, 14
  • we go 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11
WE WIN! 28 to 29. It's not an easy task but our teams have the potential to do just that. Top 5 score and in this case we put 7 in front of their 5. Even though they have the first 2 spots the depth of our team is more powerful.

Results from Tuesday's Race. T-Stank will have the girls to hand out.

Keep at it and continue to challenge yourself. Never settle for the status quo!

I enjoyed seeing all of you yesterday, particularly as you were trying to clear the hay hurdles near the end of the run. Both the boys and girls teams look like they have great potential for the upcoming season. Hopefully I will be able to check out a couple more meets after the school year starts up.

Time to go work on some math...
