The picture on the right was sent to me and the email said... Pix of Margo Glew's son Robbie and Ryan at the meet. The Haslett boys have a rep of being nice kids.:)
To get a comment like that is priceless and means a great deal. Yes... running fast is one of our primary objectives, but being nice is a billion times more important. When you are nice to your competition and others you will have their support. Having a great deal of support from many different places is huge in running. You can't do it alone.
The boys ran extremely well at States. Overall they exceeded my expectations. We had 5 of 7 set PRs. That gives us a lot of confidence in our training and racing schedule. Sometimes it will work and sometimes it won't, but over time we will find that it will work more times than not. If you look at Ionia on paper they should have won the State meet hands down. I am sure their training was on, but it just sounds like a few runners were sick and they did not have good days. The level of competition at States is so high that if you are off the slightest you can go from 1st to 5th in a matter of seconds. Typically State Champion teams are 100% on that day... and the others that were in contention were off somewhere. That's why we run the race. It's exciting, entertaining, and often times unpredictable.
