Racing vs. Time Trial

I have received a number of POSITIVE comments over the past few weeks from those that have watched many of you race. I believe it is very important to learn how to run a tactical race and also how to run a time trial type race.
  • A tactical race is run by not leading and responding to your competition. Understanding that the race to the finish line starts sometime after 1/2 way. Dual meets are a great opportunity to practice this type of racing.
  • A time trial type race is going from the gun... and maybe leading the entire race. Not worrying about responding to your competition and just going for a good time regardless of your what other's run.
The comments have been... "how smart you race"... "how you know when to go at the right time"... "how beautiful it looks to see teammates working together against other runners and running away from them in the final laps." That last quote came from a lacrosse parent that happened to be watching the 3200! That one hit the nail right on the head... how beautiful it is to watch.

A good race is a performance... a work of art!
