Why Cals? Why Drills?

I don't think I have communicated the importance of why one should do DRILLS and EXERCISES to support their running. Over the course of the year we have developed a variety of different routines to do before or after your run, which will help to keep you healthy and happy.

Some facts about these routines:
  • They take approximately 5 to 10 minutes
  • They strengthen muscles to keep you running healthy
  • They build a body that can train harder (quality) and handle more training (quantity)
  • They make you more efficient, which means you can run faster using less energy
Some thoughts to keep in mind when doing the exercises:
  • Focus on the fine details (body placement)
  • Control every movement and think about what you are doing
  • Don't just go through the motions (you are wasting your time if you are not focusing)
  • Use every second to its fullest
I can't stress enough how important it is to do the little things. It is the icing on the cake... who wants cake without icing. Not me! (if you don't like icing, this phrase does not apply to you... find a different one that works).

The GOOD teams run in the summer. The GREAT teams run and do the extra drills/exercises. The choice is yours. Make the right choice.

If you need more reasons to why it is SO important to do the little things, send me an email stankona@haslett.k12.mi.us

I can tell you from first hand experience that doing the little things work. I was once a so-so runner/athlete. I decided to work hard and do the little things, and can now do things I never thought was possible 15 years ago when I was your age.

Please... do your cals, drills, strides, and core-work to the best of your ability.
