The cross country coach at Wyandotte Roosevelt High School (my alma mater) asked for a letter to encourage his runners for the last two meets. I thought I would share it with the Haslett runners because it fits nicely into what we are doing here in Haslett.
Dear Wyandotte XC Runners,
As your Regional and State meets approach I wish you the best in these two races. Going into these races, know that you have to do nothing special to run great. You have been racing great all year and you have put in a lot of great training. There are many other teams out there who are expecting something great and magical to happen so they can reach new heights. Teams that will advance to States and place well at States are the teams that do what they always do on race day. Nothing changes for these teams.
I am thrilled to hear that Wyandotte is once again a force to be reckoned with in the Downriver running scene. When I ran for the Bears back in the late 90's we were doing very similar things to what you do. We were putting in the quality training and when we toed the line on race day we knew how to run fast... just like you are doing everyday you lace up your shoes, whether it's for training or racing. The championship races for many are the most important races of the year, but as a great runner you know that they are just another race. Become part of the race, respond to your competition, and when the race gets going in the second half be ready to role.
Keep Running Fast,
Nick Stanko
